Probiotics

Sue Visser demonstrates ingenious ways to make, take and use probiotics.

Most people will respond by saying they eat yoghurt. After taking antibiotics we are advised to compensate for a wipe out of the gut flora especially if we get diarrhoea or suffer from candida. But very few people know that probiotics are live beneficial bacteria that live in the gut and make up over 80% of the immune system. It the healthy gut flora or probiotics are in short supply then Candida yeast infections take over and they can generate over 60 types of infections. This is especially the case after detoxification and colon cleansing.

Sue Visser is the health researcher and product developer for Nature Fresh Health Products. She has been investigating ingenious ways to boost your probiotic intake and hence your natural immunity at little or no cost. Vegans who do not eat dairy-based products and people on low incomes tend to lose out on probiotics. On the radio and in her magazine articles Sue loves the DIY approach

Sue teaches people how to make a month’s worth of probiotics for as little as eight rand – the cost of a single cabbage! For the DIY vegan or health enthusiast it provides a rush of lactobacillus plantarum. The cabbage and salt base converts to lactic acid when it is stored in an air tight container for two weeks. The resultant mixture can be juiced and strained if you hate eating sauerkraut! She will show us how to make a variety of tasty foods like Kimchi or lemon pickle that are rich in all sorts of probiotics and of course, lactic acid.

  • Lactic acid has nothing to do with milk. It is a strong sterilizing compound. It suppresses harmful micro organisms and breaks down and ferments the fibre we eat such as lignin and cellulose. It also produces antibacterial compounds that are known as bacteriocins that attack pathogenic bacteria, yeasts and moulds.

  • Probiotics neutralize toxins, remove heavy metals and create vitamins in the gut.

  • They help to speed up the elimination of toxic waste in the bowel and naturally bulk up the stool and balance the water content as do laxatives and fibre supplements.

  • They also keep cholesterol and triglyceride levels in check.

  • Probiotics break down excessive hormone levels to control oestrogen dominance.

Meet the new family of 15 probiotic strains. PROBIOTIC-15 concentrate.

To get a quick boost of 15 probiotic strains just open a bottle of Sue’s latest brainchild. A plant-derived combination of ingeniously versatile probiotic strains provided by EM (effective microbe) technology has inspired two new products. They will join the ever-popular range of over 40 Nature Fresh products. 25 years of research and development in Japan created this new EM technology and it has now been introduced to South Africa.

PROBIOTIC-15 is a liquid concentrate of the three basic families of probiotic strains: lactobacillus, phototropic probiotics (similar to blue-green algae) and beneficial yeasts that do not cause candidiasis. These beneficial microbes consume the trouble making candida! When we take antibiotics and even large and frequent doses of herbs like goldenseal, oregano oil, echinachea or propolis we kill off the beneficial gut microbes as well. In other words, we compromise over 80% of the immune system and that is why we suffer from candida and constipation!

It is not about the amount of each microbe you need but more the variety of strains. Microbes grow by themselves so the latest trend is to provide a larger selection that will then take care of establishing a healthy population of beneficial bacteria. This creates a synergistic effect: more from less because they interact with each other to enhance our health in diverse ways. All we need is a liquid “seeding” concentration of the 15 species and they will grow on food, molasses, yoghurt or even a glass of water at room temperature. The TMA (total microbial action) of PROBIOTIC-15 liquid concentrate doubled within a few days when a teaspoon of it was left in a glass of water at room temperature. It just keeps on growing!

The daily dose is 5 – 15 ml. This also provides 200mcg of selenium. In South Africa we are deficient in selenium - the antioxidant mineral that helps to prevent cancer and HIV / AIDS. Minute quantities of herbal extracts are introduced to work at a vibrational level. They are: peppermint, hypericum and devil’s claw. The key adaptogens: Siberian ginseng, ashwaganda and astragalus help to train the body to gradually build by a more positive reaction to stress by stimulating an activity known as hormesis.

PROBIOTIC-15 can also be diluted and used on the skin, as a hair rinse, a vaginal douche or as an enema. Use it to soak and sanitize your fruit and vegetables and then tip the water onto your pot plants! The second product is a spray-on version of the concentrate plus it contains 10% colloidal silver. According to research it does not affect the beneficial microbes and it provides a boost of its own. It is great for first aid, to sanitize chopping boards, toilet seats etc. It can be sprayed directly onto a plate of food, especially if you do not trust the salad! Food stays fresher and free of nasty gut bugs. So now you know what to do with your probiotics every day.
