Browse through our research papers for more information on our latest findings. Our approach to investigating a health condition is unique and original. We look for the cause of the problem, find out how things work, select waysto deal with the situation and set to work on experiments until we havea few good, safe, practical solutions. Most of our cases involve patientswho have already been unsuccessful with cortisone, antibiotics, hormonereplacements, alternative therapy or surgery. Our results are very encouragingand both the doctors and their patients who have responded well to thisopen approach.
PLEASE NOTE: All the research papers on this Web have been written by Sue Visser and will be forming part of a book she is writing. Although you are welcometo read them, you will have to ask for permission to reproduce or lecture about any part of her original work. You would be held responsible for any errors they might contain. (Updating and modifying the information is done regularly. )
Sue is often asked to write for health publications and some of this material has been added to this section. A few of her papers have been read at major Medical conferences and board meetings. Fluoride, hormone replacement and calcium supplements are touchy subjects and everybody has their own version of the “truth”. Her TV and radio interviews on fluoride caused such an enthusiastic and supportive response that we had the phone constantly engaged for days. We enjoy all the letters and calls but nowthe time has come to create an open forum for people to talk about themselves and share their stories and information with everybody. We can also referpeople to the web instead of having to post and fax the information at agreat expense to ourselves and the forests.
Finding the absolute truth about a problem is the most vital part of reaching a workable solution. The idea is to eliminate all the peripheral bull that blocks our energy. When a cluttered room has been tidied, lost objects are easily found.
If you are looking for a needle in a haystack, it’squicker if you burn all the hay first. When our energy is released we can increase our reasoning and healing abilities. We can use the needle for sewing clothes instead of leaving the hay to rot. We maintain that: “An accurate diagnosis is worth a thousand cures”.
Although we respect certain restrictions that don’t allow the use of words such as: “diagnosis and cure” with regard to food, minerals, animals and plants, we find it impractical. For example: water isused to cure thirst when you have diagnosed that you are dehydrated. Is this against the law? Are people allowed to sell water? It is not offensive tocure a hunger pang with food when you have diagnosed that tummy growls and weakness are symptoms of a food deficiency.
We do not wish to offend anybody as this may lead tothe over secretion of gastric acid. We try to promote health and happiness in every way we can. Hippocrates once said: “Let your food be your medicine and let your medicine be your food.” This does not mean, however, that medical aids will provide money for food!
Weare vitally interested in new developments in the health industry and makeit our business to source and test products that can help people in allincome groups. Research work begins with finding out the exact cause ofthe illness. Many patients introduce us to their doctors who are providedwith suggestions for alternative medications, food supplements or herbalremedies.
Thedoctor and patient make the final decisions and we provide a monitoringservice where possible. We have worked with cases of cancer, diabetes, arthritis, gout, hypothyroidism, osteoporosis, adrenal fatigue, depression, weakenedimmunity and countless menstrual and menopausal complaints. Some peoplecomplain that their money has run out and they are still not well. Suggestinga simple, cost-effective treatment is better than ignoring the patient becausethey have no money.
Our research WHAT WEDO provides information for future products we can make and distribute tothe health services. In such a way we can benefit the average South African, both male and female of all race groups. We work continually on productsto improve the lives of everybody, but especially those who may remain illbecause they cannot afford the appropriate health services.
MAKING A FLUORIDE FREETOOTHPASTE FOR SUPERMARKETS, PHARMACIES AND HEALTH SHOPS
During 1996 we wereapproached by members of the safe water foundation to investigate the dangersof ingesting too much fluoride from toothpaste. Many people had complainedopenly about the lack of fluoride-free toothpaste in supermarkets. It wasnot easy to make toothpaste, but we persevered and developed a fluoridefree alternative. We approached Pick’n Pay in the Western Cape who agreedto list our range of toothpastes: for the past few years, countless peoplesuffering from gum diseases and periodontal disorders have found relief. There was a very enthusiastic response to the radio interview on Women Today, and many appreciative customers have complimented us on our product. Whenyou can avoid the need for a dental operation costing thousands of Rand,it does change your life. Other dental patients no longer need to have theirteeth cleaned every few months to remove plaque and tartar, as the toothpastekeeps it under control. Mothers are happy to use our special Junior formulationfor babies and small children as it is non toxic and safe to swallow. Thewater supply is also safer as fluoride is no longer being recycled fromthis toothpaste. Many dentists have approached us and are now seeing a greatimprovement in the health of their patients’ mouths.
MAKING A RANGE OF LOW COST MINERALSUPPLEMENTS FOR THE MASSES
South Africans are proneto basic mineral deficiencies that affect all ages. Our food is no longerproviding adequate nutrition and early symptoms of deficiencies are expressedas hyperactivity, menstrual disorders, allergies, tooth and gum problems, cramps and eventually osteoarthritis and osteoporosis in later life. Wewere alarmed at the cost of calcium supplements and of the general ignoranceof the public in this area. It is not easy to encourage people to preventosteoporosis. We feel that the best way to help with the prevention ofosteoporosis is by making calcium and magnesium supplements pleasant, cheapand attractive to take. This we have done for the past ten years. Costsare kept down, so that for a few cents instead of a few Rand a day, an adequateamount of calcium is ingested. We monitor the side effects and have at presentthree good formulations that are now being prescribed by doctors. Costscan be reclaimed on medical aid. This product has changed my life by preservingmy bone density: I am 45 years old, yet my bone scan reveals a positivebalance corresponding to that of an adolescent. I practice what I preachand aim to improve the bone density of ladies suffering from osteoporosisby at least 5 – 10% per year. Our oldest test volunteer has seen an improvementof over 15% during the past three years. We try to recommend practicaland affordable food supplements and dietary changes and observe how a patient’shormonal status is affected. We also like to hear about other health problemspeople encounter as this may offer many clues to their current condition.
Ourmost recent mineral supplement is specially formulated to assist childrensuffering from hyperactivity and learning disorders. Most of these childrenare deficient in calcium, magnesium, zinc and copper. We provide a cheapand tasty sugar free mix for milkshakes. Although it is not a specific replacementfor Ritalin, it brings relief to over 30% of these children. The next stepis to provide good protein foods for them, to replace the sugary junk foodsthat may aggravate the situation. Dietary changes also have to be made,to include more vitamins and essential fatty acids.
MAKING SKIN CAREPRODUCTS FOR PEOPLE WITH SENSITIVE SKINS, ALLERGIES & YEAST INFECTIONS
Inresponse to numerous complaints about skin irritations and infections causedby commercial skin products, we have developed a range of bathing and skincare products that are helping to clear up problem skins, especially forteenagers. Commercial products such as bubble baths and aqueous creams areoften based on petrochemicals and corrosive detergents. We have frequentlyrecommended the use of rooibos tea, salt and cider vinegar for people sufferingfrom vaginal irritations and infections: this relieves itching and burningand eliminates odours. Yoghurt also helps these ladies. Our research hasshown that vaginal pH is between 3,5 and 4. In other words, it is acidic. Most soaps are very alkaline at between 8 and 11. By making a bubble bathwith a pH of 3,5 – 4, we have solved several problems, especially for littlegirls who are not allowed to use commercial bubble baths. The bubbles lastthroughout the bath and the same product is used for washing.
Weoften receive reports from people using our Aloe Skin Therapy Gel. Fromrashes and sunburn to insect bites and acne, it is helping to soothe andcomfort skin irritations where expensive equivalents have failed. By usingFynbos herbs like : Wild camphor, sage, bucchu and aloe extracts, we helpto promote local medicinal plants.
VOLUNTARY RESEARCH PROJECTS
HumanBeings were created to be well, not sickly. Why do we place such a heavyburden on our medical systems? We could avoid many of these expenses ifwe were made more aware of how to stay healthy. We investigated a numberof alternative medical practices, such as Homeopathy, Naturopathy, Reflexologyand Naturopathy to experience the benefits they had to offer. Over the yearsSue took on the responsibility of caring for the health and nutrition ofthe family. Gradually we began to benefit from simple dietary changes andfood supplements. We found that calcium supplements were very expensiveand began to formulate our own. Getting to know how to use simple Homeopathicremedies changed our lives and antibiotics were a thing of the past. Itwas also goodbye to depression, fatigue, frequent colds, allergies and otherstress-related disorders. We are now fully committed to help all South Africanswith the products we develop for mass markets. We refuse to add to costsby using pyramid-marketing systems that can result in excessive mark ups.Preventative medicine should be made as cheap as possible. In, fact, Suehas never charged anybody for her valuable time she has spent with them.
Several of Sue’s paperson fluoride, osteoporosis and hormone therapy have been read by Doctorsat medical conferences. Her information on osteoporosis: “Ten things youneed to know about calcium.” was presented by Dr. Brom of the ComplimentaryHealth Association at a recent seminar on Robben Island. It was well receivedand many Health Practitioners throughout the country are now prescribingour NATURE FRESH mineral supplements as Dr Brom’s survey on calcium supplementsshowed we have the most comprehensive formulation at the lowest possiblecost. We make economical mineral powders for the treatment and preventionof osteoporosis and they can be paid for by medical aid schemes such asMedicredit if they are prescribed by doctors.
DEVELOPING NATURAL PRODUCTS FORHRT (HORMONAL RESTORATION THERAPY) : A REPORT BY SUE VISSER
Duringthe past two years, I have been pioneering a field study on hormonal activitiesrelating to stress, depression and the menopause. Our new South AfricanHerbal product is being tested and will soon be patented and released. Theneed for a safe and natural way to help women overcome their menstrual andmenopausal distress is so great that I decided to do something about thesituation. I developed and tested the product on myself for over a yearwith good results A well-known organization encouraged me to undertake moretrials and intend to claim the right to market the product both in SouthAfrica and Internationally. Happy volunteers have reported relief from migraines, headaches, PMT, hot flushes, sore breasts, bad moods and depression. Theproduct is totally natural, is hormone free, fast acting and non -toxic.A spin-off from this substance acts as a natural form of birth control butthis needs further research. More details cannot be released, due to a confidentialityagreement with my clients, but some significant changes are in the pipelinewith regard to hormone replacement therapy.
Womenare encouraged to go onto HRT because of the threat of mid-life complications.Synthetic hormones carry a well - known cancer risk, yet are prescribedto women who may not even need them. Many women are led to believe thatan estrogen supplement will solve all their problems and are then told thatthey have a heart condition and cannot take it. There are also dangers attachedto taking estrogen for more than 10 years. What then?
A lot of literatureis available on overcoming these problems naturally. We have developed cosmeticproducts that give instant relief from conditions that affect the sex livesof men and women. Research in India and inspiration from the Kama Sutrahas resulted in a new intimate product that sensitizes and lubricates allthe necessary places. This provides an instant alternative to dryness, especiallyas conventional HRT, often prescribed for this problem, may only take effectafter a few months. NATURE FRESH Tea Tree Lubricant for minor infections, fragranced Wild Rose for some fun, and Clear fragrance- free gel lubricants are complemented by our Vaginal washes with Tea Tree or Rooibos to maintainthe pH balance of the vagina.
SOURCINGAND TESTING ALTERNATIVE REMEDIES FOR DIABETES & HYPOCLYCAEMIA
We are at present testingnatural formulations to lower blood sugar without the use of drugs. Duringthe past year I have tested a method of stabilizing blood sugar in laboratoryanimals. This involved baking special muffins containing soya, oats, flaxseeds, trace elements and various fibre rich foods. I now manufacture tabletsmade of natural substances such as herbs, spices and food supplements. Diabeticvolunteers, working with their doctors, are effectively reducing their bloodsugar levels to below those they were normally achieving. Some patientsare keen to reduce their medications under medical supervision. The additionof a palatable soya powder to their daily food is also helping to keep bloodsugar levels stable. For hypoglycemia this form of protein and slow-digestingfibre avoids extremes in blood sugar levels.
Groundup flax seeds also provide complex fibres, Omega3 and protein to the diet.I am also testing the use of a sugar free treatment for hypoglycemia thatinvolves potassium chloride. So far, it has been very effective as it preventsthe rebound from excessive glucose therapy.
