If I could begin my life again as a young mother, here are a few things I would like to have done, right from the start.:
I would question the immunization of very young babies against all common childhood diseases. I would never immunize a sick child, especially if they had a slight sniffle or allergy at the time. Now I enjoy reading books about natural alternatives to immunization and how to strengthen their immune systems with food, herbs and Homeopathic remedies. This would have been especially good for babies with blood type A. How wonderful it would have been to keep their diets clear of incompatible foods and all those toxic additives. I would have been able to sleep, instead of trying to hear if the kids were still breathing. There was also the horror of falling for constant antibiotics, when a Homeopathic remedy finally saved the day. That day was the beginning of my career as a health researcher. Now I read labels carefully, especially those on infant foods. A young mother can be so gullible and trusting. Never forget that breast milk contains everything a baby needs, and this does not include nasty additives or substances that cause toxicity or allergies. Blood type O babies in particular should stay away from products that contain cow’s milk and wheat. I wish I had known that!
As a mom to be, I would undertake my own research, based on blood type eating and naturopathy to feed my new baby. How wonderful it would have been to understand that each constitution is unique. I never used bottled fruit and vegetables as it was cheaper to cook fresh vegetables myself and fruit is best left in a natural state, so that was not a problem. However, orange juice caused some bad reactions, especially the commercial brands that were full of sodium benzoate. Now we know that orange juice is not a panacea and it is best suited to blood type B. The kids used to keep running to the toilet to try and urinate because the severe burning sensation was giving them the wrong signal! My children could so easily have been free of allergic reactions, chest infections, and diarrhea or nappy rashes! From the breast to the rest, I would have tried to feed my family the foods that really suit them, like I do now. Today the money we save on medical bills pays for our annual holiday. I know now that my own mother was horribly misinformed and I nearly died of constant respiratory problems due to the baby diet and feeding formula she received from the local clinic. Who told her about giving a wee bit of brandy for colic, and why did she put honey on my dummy?
I would hit anybody who tried to give my babies sodium fluoride in any form. I would never give them toxic toothpaste that they may swallow or eat. No fluoride deficiency has ever been reported, but manufacturers are reluctant to let go of sodium fluoride, regardless of it being a toxin that accumulates in the body. Over time excessive fluoride undermines the immune and nervous systems and causes unsightly, brittle teeth. Luckily I got wise to Schussler’s Tissue salts and gave the children Calc Fluor pills to suck. I then heard about a young child in Sea Point who had eaten half a container of Zymafluor, thinking they were sweeties. She died, after a series of violent convulsions. It was only when I saw a little girl eating toothpaste six years ago that I decided to climb in and start making the fluoride-free toothpaste we now have available at supermarkets. It has given me great peace of mind to make special junior toothpaste that contains only a Homeopathic form of fluoride and it is safe enough to swallow. How nice, I would not have had to supervise the evening tooth brushing marathons every night. But finally bundling them into bed with stories and hugs, I really miss.
I’m constantly reminded of the horror of head lice and nits by anxious mothers who have to use very toxic products to get rid of them and end up doing a lot more harm to themselves as well as the children. What options do they have? The whole family begins to itch and scratch at the thought lice, so I have declared organic warfare on these little critters! They have finally met their doom with a barrage of natural anti-microbials that I have blended into a new herbal gel. This product has taken over two years to develop and test but finally, it is commercially available. How I would have loved to use such a safe, natural gel to clean out the lice and nits, rinse them off to bug heaven and have clean, shiny hair that combs out like a dream. A little gel combed in daily doubles up as a conditioner and will immediately expel or repel any wayward lice, nits, scabies and even little showers of dandruff. I remember the toxic spray that I had to use on pillows, towels and everything the kids touched. All because somebody borrowed my daughter’s bathing cap!
Starry-eyed children at parties load up on: sweets, cake, sugar-laden beverages, ice creams, chips and biscuits. We gave in to peer-pressure for fear of offending our young. It could have been so different, with just as much fun, but all the children could have eaten and behaved a lot better. No vomiting of whole peanuts with blazes of jellybeans, chips and chocolates down the passage, no snotty noses and no screaming, biting and scratching. No birthday icing made of sugar. No blood sugar blues or junk food addiction. I am already working on some party themes for desperate parents who keep asking me for advice. How about: delicious natural foods, decorations and costumes the children can make and survivor-type games. I also have stacks of ideas for lovely messy arty crafty days so the children can make all the party goodies themselves and I get to play with them. Children love fun, excitement, love and laughter and these do not come from cellophane packages in products laden with junk food that causes allergies, indigestion and weakens the immune system. At a party a young child can consume more than two whole day’s worth of calories at a single sitting. South Africans consume over 35kg of sugar per capita per annum. Children learn their eating habits from their parents. Watch out for early signs of obesity in young children. When the whole family eats only healthy, nourishing food it creates health awareness for life.
I would lock up anybody who suggested a small child should take amphetamines to improve their ability to behave and concentrate. I have no regrets in this arena. Naughty children, even those belonging to my friends, got a solid whack on the behind when they misbehaved. We would then have tickle and tumble sessions, tell stories and jokes or have a snack break. All these children are now balanced and happy adults who escaped the clutches of child psychologists. They were not given Ritalin (methylphenidate) and turned into zombie-like drug addicts like so many of the youngsters of today. Did you know that Ritalin is more dangerous than cocaine? It’s also legal and available on prescription. Have you ever studied the side effects of Ritalin? Learn about discipline, good nutrition and how to detoxify your children. Insecurity, food allergies and heavy metal poisoning are all associated with learning disorders. If you take pills for every ache and pain, for depression, for insomnia, for energy or just to feel “normal” then your children will copy you. They will readily accept a pill to get better marks at school. Get real! Drug addiction begins at home; it does not happen by accident. A pill is no substitute for time, good nutrition and loving care.
In conclusion: as a mother with a son and a daughter in their late twenties, I could have done better, but I didn’t do too badly, either. They are potty trained; they survived their childhood diseases without immunization and now they eat according to their blood type. Thanks to them, I am now computer literate and have a wonderful website! Feel free to visit us should you wish to know more about helping yourself to health, like we did.
