JIM AND SUE IN MEXICO
The crystal blue seas of the Caribbean called Jim and Sue away earlier this year. Oh yes, it’s always a research trip, according to Sue who wanted to see what Mexican Yam was all about. Not many clues there, but as usual there was plenty of evidence that syndrome X is the main problem, especially in this region. Carbohydrates abound and fresh fruit and vegetables are scarce and expensive. Junk food is the only thing you can buy at local shops and it’s a real hunt for anything nutritious. Chicken and seafood were good for the boys and as blood type A’s and so was the wheat and maize – but not for me. As a blood type O vegetarian, Mexican food is a big compromise. I lost a lot of weight, with only beans, nachos and few scraps of salad and sometimes some cheese to eat. Hardly perfect for the Blood type diet or the Zone diet! Inspired by the volumes of Barry Sears (do read the Anti-ageing ZONE) I studied during the long bus rides; we now have the answer to insulin resistance and more cyclic AMP!
Jim and our son Anton went scuba diving and I snorkelled along, enjoying the abundance of colourful fish, nurse sharks, corals and the luxuriously warm water. We dutifully visited the grand temple sites, the underground caverns - but spent most of the time underwater. We escaped the hurricanes that then devastated the beautiful beaches of Cancun in September.
